A psychiatric hospital is an institution that is primarily engaged in providing medical services for the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. Psychiatric hospitals in Puerto Rico offer a variety of inpatient and outpatient services.

In addition to psychotherapy conducted as part of patient treatment , other therapy programs are incorporated into the services provided at psychiatric hospitals. Examples of outpatient services offered at psychiatric hospitals include substance abuse treatment, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy.
